Building on Satellite, the very successful pilot residency run in collaboration with The Mothership Project, Cow House Studios, with the support of Wexford County Council is pleased to offer an annual two-week residency designed specifically for parenting artists. The Parenting Artist Residency makes it possible for awarded artists to dedicate time to their work by offering all the support necessary. We recognize many artists discover they must drop or drastically curtail their creative practice while having children, leaving a cultural gap. This residency supports parenting artists at this key stage in their lives, assisting them to have productive and rewarding careers as they rear their families.
Overview
The Parenting Artist Residency is designed specifically for parenting artists with dependants between two and twelve years old; children and partners are welcome. Through an open call, this residency will allow participating artists to develop new work, progress existing projects, or return to their practice after taking time to have children. This residency offers childcare, a stipend of €500, accommodation, and meals.
This residency aims to provide a platform that is notably missing from existing offerings, fostering solidarity among artists who often end up isolated and alienated from existing art structures because of having a family.
Parenting Residency Details
Selected artists and their families will come to Rathnure and reside at Cow House Studios for two weeks in spring 2025, from April 14th to the 27th. While here, they will be immersed in the supportive and invigorating environment at Cow House Studios. Childcare is provided from 10 AM until 5 PM on weekdays, allowing artists to focus entirely on their work.
Eligibility Criteria
- This opportunity is open to visual artists.
- Applicant’s children must be between two and twelve years old.
- Applicants must live within a two-hour time difference in Ireland.
Dates: April 14th – 27th, 2025
Stipend: €500
Residency Includes:
- three delicious and healthy meals daily*
- a private room and studio
- use of studio tools, facilities, and materials
- childcare from 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday**
*Breakfast is self-service, while lunch and dinner are enjoyed as a group. All food is lovingly prepared in our kitchen.
**There is a lunch break from 1 to 2 PM. Parents are expected to mind their children at mealtimes.
Application Guidelines
The application deadline for our Parenting Artist Residency Program is Sunday, December 15th, 2024. You can apply for this residency by clicking the apply button on the bottom right-hand corner of this webpage.
You will need a prepared portfolio in PDF format that is at most 10MB in size. We have no specific requirement for the number of images; we advise applicants only to submit relevant materials to reduce the size of email submissions. The images should include captions or short descriptions.
For videos, films, or audio, please provide links to your website, Vimeo page, or YouTube page in the space provided.
It typically takes two to four weeks to process all applications. Successful applicants should expect notification no later than Monday, January 13th, 2025.
