ARE (Artist Residencies Enschede) is founded in 2007 and is an internationally recognized organization. ARE provides an opportunity for visual artists to explore their practice within another community while meeting new people, using new materials, and experiencing life in a new location. ARE emphasizes the importance of meaningful and multi-layered cultural exchange and immersion into another culture.
Artist Residencies Enschede (ARE) welcomes applications from artists from all over the world to participate in a three-month art residency in collaboration with The Overkill in Enschede (NL).

ARE invites international artists to apply for our artist-in-residence program in Enschede for 2025. We offer 6 residency spots across 3 periods, artists may indicate their first and second period preferences:
- January-March
- May-July
- September-November.

Who/ what are we looking for:
We welcome applications from visual artists in any discipline who can communicate in English and are open to collaborative projects with other artists, cultural institutions, or local communities. Applicants should explain why they wish to undertake the residency in Enschede, the importance of this location, and how they will engage with the local environment or communities in their work.
The residency includes:
The residency spans 3 months and includes free housing, studio space, basic tools, wifi, a bicycle, and a material budget. Each artist will have the opportunity for a solo exhibition/ presentation in the end of the residency. ARE provides the resident artists with a material budget, depending on individual projects, but advises artists to secure additional funding from elsewhere.

- ARE is an internationally oriented artist-in-residence. We therefore do not accept applications from artists residing in the Netherlands.
- Travel costs and living expenses are not covered by ARE.
