Yingge, situated southwest of the Taipei Basin, began its ceramic industry in 1804, leveraging its abundant clay and minerals. Over two centuries, it has grown into Taiwan’s foremost ceramic city, boasting a rich heritage of ceramic culture and technology. Since 2010, the Yingge Ceramics Museum has spearheaded the Taiwan Ceramics Residency Program to preserve Yingge’s cultural legacy and inject fresh energy into the city. Providing artists with space, equipment, and technical support, the program encourages both local and international creators to deeply engage with Yingge, fostering community exchanges and positioning Yingge as a hub for global ceramic art practice.
2. Applicant Eligibility
Those with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in ceramic art practice, whether domestic or international, are eligible to apply for the Yingge Ceramic Museum’s residency program.
3. Application Period
Application ends on July 31st 2024, 23:59 PM (GMT+8).
4. Location
International Residency Center, Yingge Ceramics Museum, New Taipei City, Taiwan
5. Residency Duration and Schedule
The maximum residency period is 90 days.
A total of four time slots are available for 2025:
(1) February to April 2025
(2) April to June 2025
(3) July to September 2025
(4) October to December 2025
6. Subsidies
(1) Workspace and Equipment: Provide free access to semi-open ceramic workspace with basic ceramic equipment.
(2) Material:
A. The material subsidy is capped at a maximum of NTD $30,000 per artist for the duration of the residency. This allowance can be allocated towards the purchase of clay, tools, kiln firing, and related expenses. However, it does not cover precious materials (such as crystals, gold, or silver), or post-firing necessities (such as bases, pedestals, lacquer, photography, packaging, transportation, etc.). If artists require specialized materials unavailable in Taiwan, they are responsible for sourcing them independently.
B. Reclaim clay and raw materials provided at the residency center are available for use at no cost (except for stains and expensive oxides).
C. All tools and remaining materials provided by the Museum at the end of the residency must be returned in full.
(3) Transportation:
A. For domestic artists
(A) The maximum reimbursement standard for round-trip transportation is based on the cost of economy class tickets for the Taiwan High-Speed Rail to and from the artist’s ‘place of residence’ to the Yingge Ceramics Museum and back, excluding taxi fares for local transportation to and from transportation hubs.
(B) Artists are responsible for booking their own transportation tickets and must provide proof of purchase for reimbursement.
B. For foreign artists
(A) The maximum reimbursement standard for round-trip transportation is based on the cost of economy class airfare to and from the airport nearest the artist’s ‘place of residence’ and Taoyuan Airport (TPE). Artists must depart from the airport nearest to their ‘place of residence’ and arrive at Taoyuan Airport. Only flights between these two airports are eligible for reimbursement.
*The ‘place of residence’ is determined by nationality as recorded in the passport or by the country of valid residency, which should match the address provided in the application.
(B) Flight changes must have a valid and compelling reason and are limited to only one change of flights. However, if the cost of the changed ticket decreases the cost of the airfare, this policy will not be emphasized.
(C) Artists are responsible for booking their own flights to and from the designated airports and must provide proof of purchase for reimbursement.
(D) The Museum offers two shuttle services between Taoyuan Airport and the provided accommodation for artists upon their arrival and departure for the residency.
(4) Accommodation: Each artist will be provided with a single-person bedroom while sharing common living spaces such as the living room, kitchen, and bathroom with fellow artists in residence. Overnight stays by individuals other than the selected artist are not permitted in the apartment, including family members, relatives, or friends.
7. Artist Residency Obligations:
(1) During the residency period, artists are required to contribute at least one artwork for educational purposes (not for the Museum’s collection). Both parties will collaboratively decide on the donation of the artwork; however, in the event of a disagreement, the Museum will have the final say.
(2) Artists must propose and carry out at least one educational event, such as a lecture, workshop, demonstration, or community project. The Museum will collaborate with the artist to finalize the specific details and arrangements of the event.
8. Application Method
All applications are to be completed online and email.
(1) Application Process:
A. Register a new account or sign in the “Ceramic Academy website” (https://academy.ceramics.ntpc.gov.tw/en-us/Residence/R/1/27.htm) before you begin your application.
B. Complete the registration information according to the instructions provided and submit.
C. Ensure to download the “2025 Taiwan Ceramics Residency Program Application Form” from the online application page. Upon completion, submit the form to Ms. Huang at ycmresidency@gmail.com. Remember to include “2025 Taiwan Ceramics Residency Program Application – (Your Name)” as the subject of the email.
