Independent & Image Art Space (Chongqing, China) is happy to announce a group exhibition open call “Expressionist Photography”.
Expressionist Photography, as a photographic style, typically originates from the artist’s subjective emotions and inner experiences, emphasizing the portrayal of inner feelings, states of mind, and psychological landscapes through images rather than merely adhering to objective reality. This style of photography often employs exaggerated lighting effects, unconventional compositions, stark contrasts in tones, or techniques such as blurring and distortion to convey an emotional experience that transcends reality, resulting in a powerful visual impact.
In the history of photography, early expressionist tendencies can be traced back to the early 20th century, when German Expressionist cinema influenced photography. In contemporary photography, many artists also adopt expressionist techniques. We invite artists from around the world who create in this style to participate in the exhibition, using the language of the lens to break away from direct representations of reality, showcasing individualized emotional expression and visual tension.

ELIGIBLE SUBMISSION
Artists are invited to submit 1-10 photography works responding to the theme, without limit to genres and techniques.
FOR SELECTED ARTIST
- Selected artworks will be printed (Epson giclée print) and framed by us and shown in the group exhibition;
- Chinese-English bilingual online feature on our website;
- Chinese-English bilingual digital catalog;
- Chinese-English bilingual promotion on Chinese and international social media.
COPYRIGHT
- The artist retains the sole copyright for the images;
- Submitted images can be available for public viewing on our website and social media, including in relation to promotional activities for the exhibition;
- All display images will be credited with the artist’s name.
FEES
- $80 up to 10 works;
- Submission fees are non-refundable.
HOW TO SUBMIT
- Please pay the submission fee with the following PayPal payment button;
- Please fill in, upload images and submit the form below.
You should upload 1- 10 works, images in JEPG, 300 dpi, each image between 1MB and 5MB.
Once you’ve paid and submitted your application materials, you will receive a confirmation email from us within 48 hours, confirming the successful receipt of your submission.
