Hypatia-in-the-Woods offers a residential retreat for women in the arts, academia, and entrepreneurship, located at Holly House, a serene and distraction-free environment. The residency provides time and space for creative work and reflection. Residents are encouraged to engage with their creative or academic pursuits in a supportive setting.

  • Quarterly Application Deadlines:
    • February 15 for residencies in October, November, and December.
    • May 15 for January, February, and March.
    • August 15 for April, May, and June.
    • November 1 for July, August, and September.
  • The current open call’s deadline is February 15, 2025, for residencies in Fall 2025.
  • Residency Duration: 1 to 3 weeks.
  • Application fee: $20

 

Eligibility:
Open to women in the arts, academia, and entrepreneurship, broadly defined, including visual arts, written and performing arts, academic professions, and entrepreneurial endeavors.

 

Theme:
Focused on creative expression, academic exploration, and entrepreneurship. Residents can work on their specific projects or academic inquiries in a peaceful, remote location.

 

How to Apply:

  • Complete the Application for Residency form.
  • Submit a $20 non-refundable processing fee.
  • For artists: Submit 3-5 pages of poetry or 10 double-spaced pages of prose/script, along with images of artwork or links to video/audio materials.
  • For academics/entrepreneurs: Provide a current CV and relevant work samples.
  • Submit application via email as a PDF or mail it with the fee.

 

Selection Process:
Applications are reviewed by the selection team, and decisions are made approximately 5-7 weeks after the application deadline. Priority is given based on the quality of the proposed project or academic inquiry.
