Short Description

The Transversalidades Photo Contest 2025, organized by the Centro de Estudos Ibéricos (CEI) in Guarda, Portugal, is an international photography competition designed to highlight the richness and diversity of territories, societies, and cultures across the globe. By focusing on themes such as natural heritage, urbanization, rural life, and cultural diversity, the contest seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of human and environmental landscapes. Participants are invited to submit a portfolio of six photographs, each reflecting one of the four thematic categories: Landscapes, Biodiversity, and Natural Heritage; Rural Areas, Agriculture, and Settlement; The City and the Urbanization Process; and Culture and Society, with an emphasis on cultural diversity and social inclusion. This structure encourages photographers to explore and document the multifaceted relationships between people and their environments.

 

Eligibility

Photos must allude to one of the following subjects:

  1. Landscapes, biodiversity and natural heritage (Natural resources and risks; use, management and planning of natural areas; diversity of contexts and intercourse between man and the environment, etc.).
  2. Rural areas, agriculture and settlement (Goods and agricultural products, organization of rural areas; places and rural architecture, mobility, etc.).
  3. The city and the urbanization process (City, architecture, regeneration and urbanization processes; landscapes, urban environments and experiences, etc.).
  4. Culture and society: cultural diversity and social inclusion (Constructed legacy and cultural heritage, ways of life and social conditions; fight against poverty and social exclusion, etc.)

 

Submission Requirements

    1. the application form properly filled with the following fields: personal information about the author; description for each photo;
    2. file with portfolio of six (6) photos:
        iii. The file must be send to the e-mail ceibericos.transversalidades@gmail.com or via WeTransfer.
        ii. The file name must be identified by the identification the number of each contestant: identity card number, passport or other (Ex: 122258045.zip).
        i. Photos must be numbered from 1 to 6 according to the captions on the form;

Program Benefits & Awards:

  1. General Awards:
    1. The Overall Winner (1) for the best and most complete submitted portfolio will receive a prize money of EUR 1.500,00 (one thousand five hundred euros)
    2. The Winner of each theme (4) for the best and most complete portfolio will receive EUR 750,00 (seven hundred and fifty euros)
    3. The Jury will also award up to 12 portfolios, being each one awarded with EUR 150,00 (one hundred and fifty euros).
  2. Special Awards:
    1. For a Portuguese competitor: prize money of EUR 500,00 (five hundred euros);
    2. For a competitor from the Portuguese Speaking African Countries (PALOP): prize money of EUR 500,00 (five hundred euros).
