GRIT is Exit 11 Performing Arts Company’s playwriting program for new and emerging writers wanting to share untold stories. It serves as a platform to amplify emerging and traditionally marginalized voices. Open to writers from anywhere in the world, GRIT seeks to discover stories that explore courage and resolve, how larger sociopolitical forces seep into the fleeting moments of everyday life, and the choices we make to resist them.
Over the course of the three-month residency, writers will be encouraged to develop either a new script or a work-in-progress through masterclasses with experienced writers, dramaturgs, and directors. Exit 11 will offer peer and structured support, as well as organize workshop rehearsals with a director and actors.
The 2023 program will culminate in an online play reading festival showcasing the participant’s work as finished scenes, full plays, or works-in-progress in June.
We are looking for submissions:
- From new and emerging writers anywhere in the world;
- From traditionally marginalized voices;
- At an early- to mid-stage of development;
- That are unpublished and unperformed; and
- That showcase GRIT (see above).
To submit, complete the application form and upload your writing sample or work-in-progress using the button below. The deadline to submit has been extended to February 19.
