From September to April, Pocoapoco hosts five-week residencies made up of international and local residents who come together to think, work, discuss and collaborate. With a focus on shared practice & dialogue, the residency works to support and connect individuals, ideas and practices catalyzing social discourse, understanding and change.
We welcome artists and non-artists across all fields. We consider active observation, dialogue and reflection as essential to building new ways of coming together and creating together across locations, disciplines and practices.
The relationships and dialogues that develop during the residency continuously inform our educational programs, exhibitions and additional projects. Through ongoing collaborations, we aim continue to learn from and strengthen the network of artists, cultural and social workers that come together here.
Program Details
Residents work independently on proposed projects or research and come together for meals as well as conversations, presentations and / or practices throughout the week.
To further the interdisciplinary exchange that is at the core of our work, residents share their work or practice at various points throughout their stay. This includes brief resident presentations the first weeks; a required short workshop, class or presentation open to the public during the fourth week; and an open house the last weekend of the residency.
Our residency is bilingual — everything is translated in English and Spanish but we ask that ALL international residents arrive with a minimal knowledge of Spanish.
We are less focused on residents’ capability to produce or execute, and more so on the thoughtful process and purpose from which they are doing so.
Our residents include social & cultural workers, fine artists, writers & journalists, musicians & performance artists, arts administrators, architects & designers, researchers, students, educators and others.
Applicants are encouraged to consider (both on application and during their stay) their role and responsibility as an artist or researcher learning and creating in a new location.
