The Athens Residency is the flagship program of ARCAthens
Founded in 2017, ARCAthens is a not-for-profit organization offering two Athens Residency Fellowships (Visual Art and Curatorial). These fully-funded opportunities enable artists, curators, and scholars to live/work in Athens, Greece, and be immersed in—and consequently respond to—the ongoing cultural renaissance taking place here. Our program has been lauded for providing promotional services and robust elective networking such as arranged studio and private collection visits, bespoke tours of institutions, as well as participation in varied community events.

Eligibility
ARCAthens values diversity and welcomes applicants from all countries and nationalities, representing a broad range of creative thought and practice.
The Athens Residency program is open to applicants not residing in Greece.
Expectations
Our residency is designed above all to nurture and support our Fellows, as such, and is free of obligations with the following two exceptions:
- Fellows are expected to participate in a bespoke seminar with students at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
- Fellows are expected to participate in a public end-of-residency event. For examples, click here to see some of our previous events.
Practical Information
Working Language: English
Duration: 2 months.
Fellowship Prize: $2,000 USD.
Air Travel: The cost of a basic coach round trip ticket is provided by ARCAthens.
Stipend: In addition to the Fellowship Prize, a stipend of 150 USD per week is provided, meant to supplement food and local transportation expenses.
Application process: No Fee – Open call.
Selection process: By a 3-person independent committee of arts professionals.
Expenses paid by the Fellows: ARCAthens offers the Fellowship Prize, air travel, a weekly stipend, and housing. The Fellows are responsible for all other expenses including food, all local travel, and any costs related to the production and shipping of their work.
Visas: Visas are not necessary for US Nationals for the duration of our program. For others, procuring Visas (as applicable) is the responsibility of the Fellows.
Passports: Ensure passports are valid for the duration of the stay (6 months before and after are encouraged).
The new European Entry/Exit System (EES) will start for all non-EU nationals, travelling in or out of the Schengen Area (https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/whom-does-ees-not-apply_en)
Facilities: Fellows have a private bedroom, shared kitchen and bathroom. Fellows are to comply with health measures as designated by operators of the facility.
