Jan van Eyck Academie Residency

Jan van Eyck Academie launches a Call for Applications for an 11-month residency. Due to renovations in the building, the residency period is set from 15 January 2025 until 15 December 2025.

All artists, curators, designers – ranging from graphic and fashion to food and social design, – writers, architects, and other researchers are welcome to apply for a working period at the Jan van Eyck amongst an international group of fellow participants. To further develop their artistic practice in depth, experiment, collaborate, and exchange, all selected participants will have access to a private studio, a monthly stipend and working budget, expert guidance from staff and advisers, a chance to shape the institute’s public programme of events, access to all academy labs, departments, and facilities: the Library, departments – Art & SocietyNature ResearchResearch & Education, and labs – Photography & AudiovisualMaterial MattersFoodPrinting & Publishing, and Future Materials.  

The selection committee is composed of an international group of professionals coming from a range of disciplines. During the reviewing process, the committee looks for applications that depict skill to inquire from a critical standpoint, the candidate’s intention of a working period at the Jan van Eyck Academie and their approach to collaboration and experimentation. Candidates from all backgrounds, age groups, and of all research interests are welcome to apply. 

Facts

  • Lasting 11 months, your residency will start on 15 January 2025;
  • 32 up to 35 spots are available each year;
  • The enrolment fee amounts to €2,750 (excl. VAT).
  • Participants receive a monthly stipend of €1,000 and a working budget of €2,000 annually;
  • Duos or collectives can apply with 1 project proposal for 1 residency at the Jan van Eyck. If selected, they will share 1 studio and will receive an adjusted stipend of minimum 1,5 and maximum 2 stipends. The enrolment fee has to be paid only once;
  • Artists with children are welcome to apply. The academy strives to support  participants with families to the best of its abilities.
  • Participants are expected to settle in Maastricht during their stay at the Jan van Eyck;
  • The languages of communication at the academy are Dutch and English. We expect you to master the English language sufficiently to be able to converse and collaborate with fellow participants and staff members;
  • Alumni of Rijksakademie or De Ateliers,  two fellow Post-Academies in the Netherlands, are not eligible to apply;
  • The Jan van Eyck Academie is not an educational institute. Consequently, the institute does not provide degrees or certificates;


An application should consist of the following, preceded by a table of contents:

  • A project proposal
  • Goals and purpose of your stay at the Jan van Eyck
  • In-Lab proposal
  • Documentation of work done in the last 5 years 
  • Resume/CV

The outcome of the selections will be announced in April 2024.
