The festival offers an alternative to existing discursive formats such as podium discussions or print and online media, focussing on sound as its central medium. Through the act of listening, a unique social space is created for artistic and discursive performances. These contributions navigate societal issues from different perspectives, making them tangible for the audience through sound. As part of our commitment to non-discriminatory content and behavior for all festival goers and participants, SNIPPET implements an awareness concept and provides content warnings where appropriate. We also seek to create sustainable networks among participants by building on their shared interests to enable new synergies. We facilitate this in part by inviting all performers to participate in the entire 3 day festival, as well as by hosting communal meals, which are made possible by our wonderful crew of cooks.
All interested people are cordially invited to take part in the open call. To take part in the selection process, the completed form must be submitted by January 13th. The form can be filled out online or sent as a PDF to snippetbasel@gmail.com. (The respective links are below.)
After the submission has been submitted on time, the SNIPPET team will report back at the beginning of February with an acceptance or rejection.
We are looking for:
– Audio features, lasting up to 30 minutes, which are presented live by the artists in front of an audience
– Sound as the central medium, supporting visual elements are not planned
– Physical presence of the performers is mandatory, streams or similar. not planned
One festival day is explicitly intended for a child and family-friendly program – entries in this category are particularly welcome. When putting together the program, particular attention will be paid to contributions that pursue experimental approaches outside of conventional narrative forms. Self-taught artists and professionals are equally invited to take part in the open call. Projects with “work-in-progress” status are also welcomed with open arms.
