The Archipelago Writing Competition 2023

The archipelago looking for great works of fiction, poetry, and personal essays. We encourage the writers to do all the necessary editorial work for we are not providing any editing feedback due to time constraint of the competition. Make sure your piece is ready and polished before sending us. It increases your chance of winning.

Winner Announcement: Every two weeks, we pick a winner and the winner receives $100 – 150 AUD as well as publication in the archipelago.

Entry fee: Free

Eligibility: One piece per entry. One entry per person for each week (you can submit your writing for each round of competition repeating every week). The writing must be previously unpublished (including online). All entries must be in English. 700 – 1000 maximum word count for stories. 150 maximum lines for poetry.

We are looking for great creative writing; short story, poetry, and personal essay. The competition runs from April 10 until July 10. We pick a winner every 2 weeks. The winner will receive $100 – 150 AUD and his/her work will be published in the archipelago magazine and social media.

Criteria:  Your entry must be new writing that has never been published before including on social media. One piece per entry. One entry per person for each week – meaning you can submit your work for each week.

Word limits: 750 -1000 words maximum for story. 150 lines maximum for poetry.

Submission Dates:April 10 – July 10
The competition will be held weekly until the first week of July. There is plenty of time, so we encourage you to spend the next weeks working on your entry and you can then submit it closer to the next deadline. Please submit the final work, we will not support editing.
