Eligibility:

  1. For the purpose of the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, sculptures are defined as freestanding, non-site specific, three-dimensional objects or wall-mounted objects.
  2. Entries should not exceed 80cm in any dimension, and must have a stable base (or appropriate mount). The overall weight and dimensions must allow for easy transportation, and not exceed the carrying capacity of two average persons.
  3. All entries must be the original work of the submitting artist and must have been designed or completed within two years prior to September 2024
  4. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist can submit. A separate entry form and fee must accompany each entry. Only one work per artist will be shown in the exhibition.
  5. Collaborative entries are acceptable.

Terms and conditions:

  1. All works must be available for the full exhibition period (13 September to 20 October 2024).
  2. Artists selected for exhibition are responsible for the transport of their work to and from Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf. This includes freight and transport costs in both directions.
  3. Artists selected for exhibition will be required to supply high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi) images of their final work as well as other suitable supporting information, to assist with the promotion and interpretation of their work and the broader exhibition.
  4. All works exhibited in the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize will be for sale. Woollahra Council will deduct a commission of 40% plus 10% GST on this commission amount from the sale price of any works sold through the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize exhibition. Where relevant, 50% of this commission will be paid to the artist’s representative, and 50% will contribute towards the costs of staging the Prize. For artists registered for GST, under this arrangement, Woollahra Council will not be responsible for remitting GST in relation to the sale of the artwork to the ATO—that will be the artist’s responsibility. If the artist is registered for GST then they will need to factor GST into their sales price.
  5. Artists must nominate a sale price in Australian Dollars (AUD) on their entry form. If the artist is selected as a finalist, the sale price listed on the entry form will be considered final and will be used in all promotional materials.
  6. All care will be taken when handling finalists’ works, however, Woollahra Council will not be responsible for loss, theft or damage. Artists are responsible for insuring their own artworks.
  7. The presentation and placement of all finalists’ works within the exhibition will be at the discretion of Gallery team. All care will be taken to ensure that special display requirements are considered to ensure the integrity of the artwork.
  8. Artists retain the moral rights to their work:
    a) In accordance with the right of attribution (and the right against false attribution), the Artist will be correctly acknowledged in all reproductions and presentations of the work.
    b) In accordance with the right of integrity, Woollahra Council will to the best of its ability and based on what is within Council’s control, put in place safeguards that would limit the risk of the Artist’s work being subjected to derogatory treatment, which is any act in relation to the work that is in any manner harmful to the Artist’s honour or reputation.
  9. Artists retain the copyright of their work.
  10. Finalists grant Woollahra Council an unlimited, non-exclusive license to reproduce their work and biographical material for promotional purposes and as a feature of the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize archive. The artist and their gallery (if applicable) will be duly credited in all such materials (as per 8a.).
  11. In line with Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) Rights:
    a) Artworks or texts containing ICIP will not be altered or adapted by Woollahra Council without the free, prior informed consent of the Artist.
    b) Council will consult with an internal expert and/or the artist to ensure that material containing ICIP will not be presented or framed in a manner that may be considered derogatory, degrading, inappropriate or offensive to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities.
    c) Exhibition interpretation will incorporate attribution of ICIP, as directed by the Artist.
    d) Woollahra Council recognises that using the likeness of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist after their passing may be culturally inappropriate. If notified of an Artist’s death, Council will, to the extent reasonably practical, remove the Artist’s likeness from any promotional material or publication under our control upon request by a family member or representative.
