Short Description:
La Macina di San Cresci offers artists the opportunity to work over a long period of time in a social environment rich in history and surrounded by nature, the Chianti landscape is perhaps the most famous in all of Tuscany. The relaxed atmosphere and the beautiful historic building form an exciting combination.
Artists are provided with a studio, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as well as access to our facilities to further develop production techniques. Knowledgeable staff are available to provide technical support and assistance.
Application Requirements
(All of the following materials must be included in the application in order to be processed.)
– Completed application form
• Proposed project
• Bio/resume, should include educational background, teaching, publications, exhibitions, awards, honors, and other relevant experience.
• Artist statement (maximum 2000 characters – approximately 400 words)
• Samples of work (must be recent and representative of the work in the applicant’s medium and discipline).
If the application form together with the required documents exceeds 5 MB, it must be sent via www.wetransfer.com

La Macina di San Cresci encourages experimentation in all disciplines and the Committee recognizes that your project may evolve or change completely while you are in residence.
Eligibility:
Artists from the following creative disciplines are invited to apply: drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and non-fiction, poetry, dance, music (there is a restored organ available in the adjacent Pieve), interdisciplinary, design and architecture.
The residency is open to emerging and professional artists.
Residency applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and can be submitted at any time. Applicants will be notified of their admission status approximately 7 – 10 days after their application is received.
Program Benefits or Awards:
La Macina di San Cresci is unable to provide direct financial support to artists.
Resident artists must therefore cover their own accommodation and food expenses.
We are happy to assist artists seeking grants or other forms of funding in their home country by providing a letter of acceptance when the application has been accepted.
Another possibility for financial support is fundraising through crowdfunding (gofundme, kickstarter, indiegogo, etc.). Some of our artists have successfully supported their residency this way.
We hope you will benefit from the opportunity to work in a professional environment, and we will make every effort to provide the support needed to ensure your time with us is fruitful.
Entry Fee:
The fee is intended to cover the general costs of managing the program and maintaining the historic building which is under the protection of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage.
Resident artists must therefore provide for their own living expenses.
One week: €550, each subsequent week €380.
A deposit of €200 is required when the applicant receives acceptance of the application.
The balance is due no later than one month before the start of the stay.
The fee includes :
– Accommodation (private room) in the historic complex of Pieve di San Cresci for the duration of the program including studio space.
– Staff support for orientation and general assistance.
– Use of the facilities available at La Macina.
– Inclusion in the yearbook and website (if the artist has developed the project proposal during the residency; inclusion is at the discretion of the Commission)
– N. 1 copy of the yearbook “The Artistic Time” relating to the year of residency of the applicant artist
– Electricity, water, Internet access.
– Bed linen and towels are provided.
– Final cleaning service.
– Two mountain bikes are available.
The fee does NOT include :
– Heating and gas. Costs are paid based on usage, the day before departure.
– Travel costs to and from the residence, visa (if necessary), and medical assistance. We strongly recommend that you have health coverage before leaving your city.
La Macina di San Cresci will not be responsible, at any time or under any circumstances, for medical expenses in case of illness, accident, etc.
– Residents are also responsible for all work materials, personal needs, food.
