This launch of an ‘Artist in Residence’ concept, created by owner and artist from Amsterdam Andre Visser (www.andrevisser.art) and his partner, Sandy Solano, a connoisseur of Cuban music and dance, will be setting the stage for a resonant cultural approach of our hospitality.

A|S BOUTIQUE RESIDENCE is delighted to announce an open call for an artistic residency experience in the heart of Old Havana in Cuba.

Immerse yourself in the enchanting history of Old Havana at this privately owned luxury boutique hotel. Nestled within the UNESCO World Heritage site OLD HAVANA, the ‘All-Suite’ marvel has been meticulously reimagined to showcase its majestic beauty. Perfectly situated in the vibrant heart of San Isidro, Old Havana.

THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE program offers both independent and group residency programs for emerging as well as established artists seeking to explore and expand their practices. Residents can engage with the intersection of social, cultural, and environmental aspects of Cuban contemporary art, bridging contemporary creativity with local heritage. These programs invite artists from around the globe to engage with Cuba’s vibrant and evolving art and music scene, characterized by a fascinating fusion of African, Spanish, and Caribbean influences. Through interactions with local artists, art galleries, curators, and immersive cultural exchanges, together with the creative interaction between the international participating artists in residence, the program offers unparalleled opportunities for creative growth, expression and inspiration, set against the backdrop of the incomparable Cuban culture and astonishing history.

Group residency programs run for two weeks and incorporate curated workshops with local artists, studio visits with contemporary artists and curators, and collaborative opportunities among residents. The program fosters deep connections with Cuba’s unparalleled art heritage focusing on artistic exchange and reflection.

The A|S open call accepts 9 residents or 18 residents per period, for private rooms for either one or two guests. Facilities include private bedrooms with King beds and bathrooms, wifi, communal outdoor and indoor areas, and support for project realization. The program can culminate in an Open Studio event, showcasing residents’ work in the Art Gallery HAV to the participants, international hotel and restaurant guests, the local community and art scene professionals.

THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE CONCEPTS ARE APPLICABLE AND WILL BE TAILOR-MADE FOR THE FOLLOWING GROUPS:

  • WRITERS, PAINTERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, MUSICIANS, CONCEPTUAL DESIGNERS, ARCHITECTS, DANCERS, PERFORMERS.

International, Emerging and established Artists, LGBTQ+ Artists

Extra remark for American citizens.

  • In respect to the limitations for American citizens to travel to Cuba, related to the American embargo, there is no restriction involved to participate in this Artist in Residence program.
  • We meet the conditions of the American regulations: We are a privately owned hotel, the Artist in Residence program is considered an educational program and all our services are organized by local entrepreneurs and there is no interference of the Cuban government.

Application details:

The Jury process is executed by owner and artist Andre Visser, who, in case of individual as well as group applications, will form the groups according to the art specialisms.

COST:

  • 18 GUESTS (2 persons per room, King beds only)- 750 EURO PER WEEK PER GUEST.
  • 9 GUESTS (1 person per room) – 1000 EURO PER WEEK PER GUEST
  • Confirmation after receipt of the payment in full, 3 weeks before starting date, by credit card payment via a link of our payment provider.
