Short Description:

The Studio Museum in Harlem seeks a Curatorial Assistant to support its collections and exhibition program. Reporting to the Curator, this full-time role is central to the museum’s efforts in research, acquisitions, collection stewardship, and expanded digital access. The assistant will collaborate across departments on archival and exhibition projects, coordinate acquisition and loan processes, and contribute to curatorial research and writing.

Ideal candidates will bring strong knowledge of mid-20th-century and contemporary art by artists of African descent, administrative precision, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities Include

  • Assist with research, exhibition planning, and checklist preparation
  • Manage acquisition and loan logistics and documentation
  • Serve as curatorial liaison for expanding digital access to the collection
  • Catalog data in TMS and NetX and maintain accurate records
  • Respond to scholarly and public inquiries
  • Support departmental administration and co-manage interns
  • Conceive and propose future exhibitions in coordination with supervisor

Eligibility:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art History or related field
  • Experience in a museum or cultural institution
  • Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS) and NetX
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities collaboratively

Program Benefits or Awards:

  • Type of employment: Full-time, non-exempt
  • Salary: $55,000 per year
  • Schedule: 40+ hours/week; occasional extended hours may be required
