Short Description:
Painting at KH Berlin is a full-time studio-based diploma program (10 semesters) that trains aspiring artists to develop independent artistic practice. After a foundational first year (foundation course in art & design), students focus on exploring the relationship between object, image, reproduction, and drawing. The emphasis is on subjective expression, critical contextualization, and developing one’s own voice
Curriculum Highlights:
- First year: foundational course common with all fine arts / design programs.
- Emphasis on drawing as a key method for visualizing, recognizing, and developing artistic thinking.
- Progressive increase of independent work; later semesters allow for more freedom and self-chosen projects.
- Final thesis / diploma project in painting: students propose their own assignment and must integrate both theoretical and practical skills gained during the study.
Entry Requirements:
- Demonstrated artistic aptitude: portfolio with at least 25 own works (up to 30 pages, PDF), including drawings, paintings, photos, collages, possibly audiovisual (≤5 min). Drawings are especially important.
- Motivation letter (1 page), CV.
- German language proficiency: for Painting (Fine Arts) applicants, German level B2.2 (e.g., DSH 1 or TestDaF 3) is required.
- University entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur or equivalent).
