Artist in Residence Munich

It is possible to apply for a residency as a guest artist through our open calls for applications, or by being suggested for the program by one of our Munich cooperation partners. Open calls are regularly published on our homepage. Proposals from Munich cooperation partners are welcome for the year 2026. Unsolicited applications will only be considered in exceptional cases – for example, when other artists cancel on short notice.

Artists suggested for the program must reside outside of Bavaria. Guest artists who stay at one of the residences will receive a monthly grant of € 1,200. In addition, we will reimburse them for a monthly ticket for the local public transportation system.

Within the framework of the residency programme, the guest artist receives a stipend of 1200€ per month from the City of Munich. The accommodation with own kitchen and bathroom is rent-free, the costs for travel expenses (economy class) up to an amount of 350€ within Europe and up to 800€ if travelling from outside Europe will be reimbursed, as well as the monthly tickets for the public transport in Munich.

We kindly ask you to send your application documents (in English or German) compiled into a single PDF file (max. 10 MB) to opencall[at) by July 15, 2024. The documents should include:
A statement of interest in the residency and ideas for a work project (max. 2 pages text + max. 4 pages visualization)
CV (max. 2 pages)
Artistic portfolio (max. 20 pages)
Applications that do not meet these criteria will not be considered.
The period of the work stay cannot be postponed, significantly shortened or split.
Applications in pairs or teams are not possible. We welcome applications from people of all nationalities, religions, sexual identities, ages and social backgrounds. Villa Waldberta is not barrier-free.
