Arts and Science Residency at Copenhagen, Denmark

Art and science are different ways of expressing our human curiosity and our will to understand the cosmos. This often means dealing with the unknown. The Strong team at the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI) is a research group working on gravity, black holes and gravitational waves. For details, please see our website: https://strong-gr.com/

We invite proposals for artist residencies of up to 3 months, involving the science of the Strong group. We value original and exciting proposals. Projects can take various forms such as literary works, performances, art works or installations exploring the field of black holes, gravitational waves and the notion of time.

About the residency
We offer up to three residencies which include the following:

– A three-month residency working with the Strong Group at the Niels Bohr International Academy, NBI in Copenhagen, Denmark.

– For applicants from outside Copenhagen, we cover travel costs and accommodation expenses for the duration of the residency. We may also be able to offer a fellowship to partly cover living or other expenses.

– A curated residency: regular meetings with scientists to discuss the artist’s project/work.

Please note we are happy to also look at applications from collaborations, but we do not have unlimited funds of course, as we are a research group. Kindly state in your application how many people you would be coming with for the residency.

Our expectations/deliverables
At the end of the residency, we expect the artist/writer/musician to be able to present a piece of work, which may take the form of: a donated artwork, an exhibit, a performance, a musical piece, a public reading, or a seminar. It is not a prerequisite that the applicant is familiar with the scientific field of gravitational physics, but we value an interest in physics in general.
