Kvitbrakka Residency on the Varanger Peninsula

Located on the northern tip of the Varanger peninsula in Norway, Kvitbrakka residence is a quiet bay for restless minds. Since its inception in 2012, Kvitbrakka has welcomed more than 50 international artists, writers, musicians and guests. Over the past 10 years Kvitbrakka has been gradually developing with increasing interest and support from national institutions and regional partners to become an important cultural reference for Northern Norway.

WHO IS INVITE

This year Kvitbrakka AiR for the first time runs an open call for art practitioners as well as for art-based researchers. 

We encourage our applicants not to see the following themes as limitations but to use them as a base for their project proposals. We are open for the applications that tackle the themes which fall in-between or not mentioned below. 

In the selection process, a priority will be given to the candidates who express a clear motivation for their stay in Berlevåg and project relevance for the local society.

WHAT IS OFFER

> 5.000 NOK one-time transfer for any expenses connected to the residence.

Kvitbrakka AiR is linked to BerlevÃ¥g Havnemuseum, which is willing to sponsor/commission relevant pieces to be acquired for its contemporary art collection.

> We can provide an invitation letter for all successful candidates to apply for additional funding.

> Free accommodation and workshop space at Kvitbrakka for the duration of the residency (from 1 month to 2 months). 

The space consist of 3 furnished bedrooms (suitable for 6 people), shared bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, a 100㎡ work-space.

> Access to Berlevåg Havnemuseum photo archive in physical and / or digital form.

> Technical support and production assistance.

AiR PROGRAMME

– Zoom orientation call with AiR coordinator 

– Arrival to BerlevÃ¥g 

– Introduction to the community on social media through a short video interview 

– Network meeting and collaboration with the municipality, artisans and/or local industries

– Development of artist in residence project and/or research

– Documentation of artist`s work in progress by Kvitbrakka staff

– Artist talk, workshop, or open studio day for the local community 

– Exhibition or presentation of the final work 

– Departure

– Follow up of the project outside the residence
