Applications for the M16 Artspace Drawing Prize 2023 are now open!
We are thrilled to announce the eagerly anticipated M16 Artspace Drawing Prize 2023, generously sponsored by The Cogito Group. As a staple in our exhibition calendar since 2006, this prestigious competition attracts hundreds of entries from across Australia and internationally.
The M16 Artspace Drawing Prize invites submissions in both traditional drawing media and techniques, as well as innovative non-traditional works that extend the understanding of what drawing may be within contemporary art practice.
This year, the competition introduces two new exciting prize categories!
1. The Digital Drawing Prize
Sponsored by ‘The Factor,’ with a prize of $2,500
Eligible artworks for this category must integrate digital technology as an essential component of their creation, utilizing devices such as tablets, computers, or smartphones. Submissions can be either 2 or 3-dimensional.
2. The First Nations Drawing Prize
The prize of $1,000 is open exclusively to First Nations artists. Generously sponsored by Kishwar Rahman, the Chair of M16 Artspace board.
Main Prize: $10,000 Sponsored by The Cogito Group
Runner-up award: $1,000 sponsored by Delta Cleaning
Digital Drawing Prize: $2,500 Sponsored by The Factor
People’s Choice Award: $500
First Nations Drawing Prize: $1,000 Sponsored by Kishwar Rahman
Local Artist Award: $500 Braddon Framing Store voucher & $390 Megalo Print Studio Class Voucher
Works from the selected finalists will be displayed during the M16 Artspace Drawing Prize 2023 exhibition from the November 25th to December 10th 2023.
You will be asked to provide the following;
- An artist statement.
250 words max, written in third person. This should refer directly to the work you are entering in the M16 Drawing Prize.
- One image per artwork.
Up to three images for 3D artworks. JPG files only, high resolution, maximum file size 3MB. Files must be named as Artist Name_Artwork Title__ Year Completed. Image credit.jpg. Image credit must be the name of the photographer.
- Artwork Price.
Please include in your retail price the appropriate gallery commission as set out in the Conditions of Entry (clauses 3.2 and 3.3), and GST if you are registered. To the nearest whole number with no decimal points/cents ($200 instead of $199.95).
- Installation instructions.
If detailed instructions are required please list them on your entry form.
The competition is open to artists from Australia and internationally.

Artwork delivery deadline: Friday, November 17th 2023
