Oficinas do Convento (Montemor-o-Novo) is opening 3 calls for artistic residencies for artists and other creators from different areas, both national and international, with the aim of supporting creative, research and production projects:

– Brick residency

– Product design residency

– sound sculpture workshop

We also present the annual and ongoing open call for our street gallery – BREVE MENTE – a graphic installation space open to all creators who want to present their ideas in this space.

GRANTS FOR CREATION RESIDENCY – SCULPTURE AND/OR ARCHITECTURE

Artistic Residencies – BRICK

Applications open until February 29th, 2024

Oficinas do Convento (OC) – Cultural Association of Arts and Communication opens the contest BRICK for grants for artistic residency projects in the areas of Sculpture and/or Architecture.We invite people to submit proposals that use brick both in its direct application – objectual, constructive – and in the creation of new forms, applications or that explore its expressive, poetic, social, historical or cultural dimension.

The selected proposal will have a total duration of 4 weeks and will be developed in Telheiro, a production unit of handcrafted building materials, in Montemor-o-Novo (Portugal), where the selected person or pair can enjoy and explore the available processes, materials and technologies.

The contest is open to all artists, architects, students and other creators, over 18 years old, national or international.

GRANTS FOR CREATION RESIDENCY – PRODUCT DESIGN – WATER

Applications open until February 29th, 2024

Oficinas do Convento (OC) – Cultural Association of Arts and Communication opens the contest for grants for creation residency in product design. This edition is dedicated to WATER – Water and earth are closely linked. Water nourishes and permeates the earth, enters into its pores and gives it plasticity that allows it to be shaped. Jars and pitchers made of fired clay have been transporting liquid since the ancient times. What else can we invent and create with these materials? What solutions can we try out and investigate this relationship for domestic, agricultural, engineering or architectural use?

The selected proposal will have a total duration of 4 weeks. It will be developed in the association’s spaces in Montemor-o-Novo (Portugal) so that the chosen person or duo can work and explore the available workshops, materials, and technologies.

The contest is open to all design students, designers, ceramists, and other national or international creators over 18 years old.

GRANTS FOR RESIDENCE INTEGRATION – SONOSCULTURE

10 DAYS – 6 ARTISTS

Oficinas do Convento (OC) – Cultural Association of Arts and Communication opens the contest to 6 people interested in taking part in the Sonosculture Workshop to be held in June 2024, in Montemor-o-Novo, for 10 days, with the opening of the exhibition in the same month.

“It is in the common zone between sound and visual art that the territory to be explored, where the plastic object itself becomes Sound – or where Sound materializes in the very plastic object it produces. A territory with wide-ranging research possibilities, which can include video, performance, drawing, installation, sculpture, sound recording, music generated live by some kinetic, electrical, electronic or atmospheric system.”

The competition is open to all artists and other creators, over 18 years old, national or foreign.

STREET GALLERY – ANNUAL OPEN CALL – BREVE MENTE

The proposal comes about as a result of waiting at a red light… a moment when I feel like invading, and inviting people to invade, these empty shop windows with ideas, feelings, illusions, poetics, that transform this wait into a moment of escape from everyday life through reflections provoked by what is found in this ‘gallery’.” (Tiago Fróis)

The presence of this gallery has a significant impact on the community and aims to stimulate creativity, collective reflection and promote a broad social dialog. We want to give visibility to artists and creators who want to disturb the city of Montemor-o-Novo, its inhabitants and those who pass through.
