Pigeon Magazine Open Call

A printed magazine that looks at the independent musician, artist, in their city and the culture surrounding them.

The local music act, street busker, or the un-named graffiti artist often go overlooked, and yet flourish as a driving force of inspiration within local creative communities. The unheard are not truly unheard, just hidden away by the noise of the world. Pigeon magazine aims to bring these artists and their stories to light, diving deeper into the personality and creative processes behind the people, neighborhoods, and cities that inspire the world over.

The absolute grit, passion, and experience that goes into being an artist of any kind without the use of the growing artificially intelligent powers taking over ones work is slowly becoming a rarity in this world. Browsing the internet only to find the top 10 or top 30 under 40 artists and musicians truly limits our view to that of those in seats of power, and it diminishes what it means to be an individual. We believe art is not meant to be viewed in under 3 seconds and swiped away only to be forgotten. Music and art is meant to be felt throughout our being and to be lived longer than a moment generated by an algorithm. It is created to tell a story, generate a feeling, and inspire those that understand it. We hope to capture these stories the best that we can and to share them for as long as we can.

Pigeon © is created by an independent artist for independent artists as a way to show up next to those that we already respect that are perched on the coffee table.

Issue 1: Los Angeles

SUBMISSION DEADLINE 7.21.24 9.9.24

Los Angeles, California. LA, as it were. Quite an amazing city brimming with creativity, life, and the epicenter of the music industry. Also home to fresh perspectives on life, thus adding to the high quality culture and sub-cultures that the city is known for.

For our first issue, we aim to dive into this city of the high-class and of the underground voices that mean the most. What makes it tick and what makes it a home to some of the greatest artists in modern history. Surely there are many stories to be told and shared from the road, that one fateful night at the lounge, bar, or maybe even one of those life changing bridge shows (iykyk).

As the road before us all changes and twists with the introductions of new technology and ways of creating, we’re searching for stories of how it all gets made, what’s your inspiration and driving factor, how many touring road trips did it take to get your latest song or album just right, any crazy nights on tour, or maybe you just sat in the corner drinking seltzer watching it all unfold. Let’s hear about those uncanny, serendipitous, or uniquely challenging times.

As anxious as a pigeon dive bombing the park for that last bread crumb we can’t wait to hear from you all and catch you at the next show.
