The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards is a major program providing exceptional opportunities for creators and filmmakers.
All 30 shortlisted filmmakers are flown to the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, to attend a black-tie ceremony and a bespoke four-day workshop program led by Sony Pictures executives.
The Awards are aimed at breakthrough artists and independent filmmakers worldwide. The competition includes a total of six categories:
- Fiction
- Non-Fiction
- Environment
- Animation (New)
- Student
- Future Format
Each category awards a winner and a shortlist of up to five.
It’s an exciting day at Creo as the second edition of the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards is now open for submissions. There are six categories filmmakers can participate in – yes, you can submit across more than one category, but be sure to check the rules and each category’s criteria before entering! New elements for this year’s edition include the Animation category. Introduced to embrace filmmakers using stop-motion, motion graphics, computer animation, drawn-on-film, rotoscoping and experimental animation (plus all of the other animation techniques available), entries to this brand new category can be between 2 to 20 minutes in length.
Entry must be produced in 2022 or 2023.

Any Entry must be submitted by 07:00 AM (CT) February 15, 2024.
