Sunflower Station Press Open Call

Sunflower Station Press is accepting submissions for magazine Issue 04. The theme is (Dis)harmony.

For this issue, we are asking artists to explore and dissect the feelings of harmony and disharmony.

What does it feel like to feel these feelings?
Or, what does it feel like to feel both these feelings at once?

We will be accepting poetry, prose, and visual art pieces that investigate these ideas.

Submission guidelines can be found at sunflowerstationpress.com/submit

Please submit your work to Submissions@sunflowerstationpress.com along with a description of your work and a brief biography of yourself.

We are looking for artistic expressions of harmony such as flow states, synchronicity, and cohesion. Share with us those moments when everything feels in order.

We are also looking for artistic expressions of disharmony such as systemic flaws, moments that make our skin crawl, and stories about bad timing. Show us those moments where something feels out of place.

Also, we would like to see art that tackles both harmony and disharmony simultaneously. Demonstrate how we can feel both love and hate, intrigue and disgust. Show us how everything can be so right and so wrong at the same time.

WE WELCOME PROSE, POETRY, PHOTOGRAPHY, COMICS, MIXED MEDIA, AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU CAN COME UP WITH THAT FITS IN A PRINT MAGAZINE.

The interplay between harmony and disharmony can be seen in every aspect of life.

Here are some points of interest we want to explore:

  • The beauty and terror of nature
  • Optical illusions
  • Moments of indecision
  • Love/hate relationships
  • Stories of dissociation
  • Depictions of the inner workings of large mechanisms (i.e. government, bureaucracy, literal machines)
  • Schadenfreude
  • Cognitive dissonance
  • Collage
