International Sound Art Competition and Exhibition

We are currently inviting entries for our next major event – The Engine Room 2025: International Sound Art Competition & Exhibition. The competition is open to emerging sound artists from around the world.

Selected works will be eligible for a number of prizes, will be programmed at an accompanying exhibition at the Morley Gallery between April 28 – May 16, 2025.

The Engine Room: International Sound Art Competition and Exhibition is a biennial event celebrating the best new sound art made by emerging artists from around the world. It has showcased a huge variety of pieces spanning the broad spectrum of ‘sound art’ including fixed-media audio and audio-visual pieces; interactive installations; performance art; sound sculptures; and graphic scores. The exhibitions for the competition have taken place at Morley Gallery.

The next International Sound Art Competition will take place in 2025 and will be announced here.

Media

We are welcoming entries in the following media:

  • Sound Installations & Sculptures
  • Interactive works
  • Audio only works (including multi-channel works)
  • Audio–Visual Works
  • Graphic Scores

Eligibility

  • The competition is open to emerging sound artists, including students
  • Entries are welcomed from all countries of residence, nationalities and age groups
  • Entries must be new works, created after January 2024
    Entries cannot have been previously exhibited, performed or have been selected in other competitions
  • Collaborative works will be accepted, providing all contributors are emerging artists. Collaborative works will count towards the limit of one entries per artist

Submission details

  • Submissions are limited to one work per entrant.
  • All entries must be submitted via the online portal on this website. Mailed or emailed materials will not be considered

Entry fee
There is no entry fee but artists are limited to submit only one work. Subsequent entries will not be considered.

Successful entries

Successful entrants will be notified by 20 January 2025 via email, and a list of selected artists will be published on this website as well.

Delivery of works

Artists selected for the exhibition will be asked to provide their final works for the duration of the exhibition.

Digital works should be supplied as full quality, uncompressed files by 1 April 2025

Physical works should be delivered to Morley Gallery between 18 – 21 April 2025

Selected exhibitors will be contacted directly to discuss delivery arrangements.
