The Farm Margaret River Funded Residency

Exciting news! Applications are now open for The Farm Margaret River’s $7,500 Funded Residency program in 2024. This residency is an incredible opportunity for creatives from all backgrounds to explore their connection to the land through their art. Located on a working rural farm property, this residency offers self-contained studios and support for travel if required, as well as a grant to cover out-of-pocket expenses. Whether you’re a local or an international artist, we encourage you to apply for this eight-week program of exploration, collaboration, and artistic inquiry.

Applications open April 1 and close August 1 2023, with the eight-week residency to be undertaken between February and October 2024. Timing of the residency is to be determined between the Funded Residency recipient and The Farm.

Artists from all disciplines, as either individuals or groups.

  • Applicants must be at least 18-years-old.
  • Applicants must have a good level of written and spoken English.
  • Applicants must be emerging or professional practising artists and be recognised as such by their peers.
  • It is strongly advised that applicants hold their own Australian or international drivers licence, as alternative transport options in the region are limited.
  • We encourage applications from people who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, as queer and/or trans and as having a disability, as well as people of colour, people of all genders and from all cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We also encourage applications from artists of all professional levels, from emerging and early career to established.

In addition to accommodation in our self-contained artists studios, the successful artist or group will receive a grant of $7,500 (ex. GST) to cover out-of-pocket expenses.

  • The grant covers all fees, costs and expenses incurred by the artist in undertaking the residency including all materials and equipment required during the residency, all other travel and accommodation costs, insurance premiums, food, freight and other out of pocket expenses.
  • TFMR will arrange, book and pay for travel expenses to the property from the artist’s place of residence if required, and host the artist on the property in self-sustained studio accommodation.
  • The artist understands that no other fees or payments will be owed to them.

It is important to provide good quality image, audio, text and/or video references that demonstrate a consistent practice – they will play a large part in presenting your application to the panel. Applications may be ineligible if image, audio and/or video references are not submitted in the correct format. Image, audio, text and/or video references should reflect the direction of your work – preferably within the last 5 years. Older work may be submitted if you can demonstrate why it is relevant to your application.

Deadline: August 1 2023
