The Sky’s the Limit! Open Call Exhibition

Riverviews Artspace invites artists to submit works that address the concept of “flight” in all of its historical, metaphorical, and symbolic possibilities. This exhibition at RVAS will coincide with events at Amazement Square, Legacy Museum and Anne Spencer House, all of whom will be celebrating the specific accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen. Artists are welcome to submit up to three works to be considered for The Sky’s the Limit: An Exhibition Celebrating Flight. This group exhibition will be held in the Craddock Terry Gallery from May 3 – June 13, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to artists of all career levels, 18 yrs and older.

Deadline for submissions: March 14, 2024

Artists of any media and subject matter (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, video, intermedia, 2D and 3D), from any US state can enter 3 works for consideration to the chosen juror, Lesley Shipley.

Lesley Shipley is Associate Professor of Art History at Randolph College where she teaches courses in modern and contemporary art as well as studio art. She has been a board member of Riverviews Artspace since 2019 and currently serves as chair of the exhibitions committee. Lesley has a PhD in art history from Bryn Mawr College and an MFA in painting from American University. She is co-editor of The Routledge Companion to Art and Activism in the Twenty-First Century and has published on activist art and African American art.

Juror will select works and artists will be notified by March 25, 2024.

Artists are responsible for bringing or mailing their works to the gallery no later than April 21, 2024.

Prize List:

  • 1st place – $250
  • 2nd place – $100
  • Honorable Mention – $50
