Short Description

PhotoIreland invites applications from artists to be awarded a studio space at the International Centre for the Image for the period August-December 2025.

The International Centre for the ImagePhotoIreland’s new cultural space in Dublin supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, presents locals and visitors alike with free access to modern facilities. These include an art library, artists’ studios, a workshop, an art bookshop, and an exhibition space. All this, alongside a year-round programme of exhibitions and events. The space brings about new and richer ways to engage with Photography and the visual arts, while expanding the discipline and empowering artists. With these facilities, the centre allows visual artists to develop their skills and practice within a creative community of peers and professionals.

The four artists’ studios offered in this call are devised as comfortable working spaces within the International Centre for the Image’s Atelier. The spacious room where they are located hosts a workshop area and a well-equipped kitchenette, and it is fitted with sound-deadening panels. Each artist’s working space provides a sit-stand adjustable desk, an ergonomic office chair, and a generous set of shelves. The studios are designed to offer ample, comfortable, and secure space in which to develop your practice, in a shared open studio plan for 4 artists.

In addition, artists will have the opportunity to work in a supportive and creative environment with regular and easy access to the library, art bookshop, and the centre’s staff. Access to the studio is available 7 days a week during opening hours of the centre, 10am to 6pm, with some exceptions possible.

Applicants to this call should be aware that the studio offer comes with no costs to artists and needs to be matched with a commitment to use the facilities at least 3 days a week. Failing to do so will mean losing the studio space. To contribute to the selected artists’ budgets in benefiting from this opportunity, PhotoIreland provides a bursary of up to €500 on a reimbursement basis for materials. Finally, all studio artists will be required to participate in studio visits and talk programmes, and they will receive remuneration for their time.

The call for studio artists is planned to be annual, and previously awarded artists will be welcome to apply again to extend their participation.
