Title & Description
Adirondack Experience Artist-in-Residence Program 2027
The 2027 Adirondack Experience Artist-in-Residence Program offers four artists a one-month residency on the museum’s campus during the summer and early autumn. The program is designed for artists whose practices have a direct connection to the visual arts and who can draw inspiration from the natural environment, cultural heritage, and historical collections of the Adirondacks.
Selected artists will develop their own body of work in public areas of the museum grounds and interact informally with visitors. They will also facilitate participatory creative activities in the museum’s Art Lab, providing opportunities for visitors to experience artistic processes firsthand. The residency emphasizes independent artistic development, public engagement, and connections between contemporary creative practice and regional history.

Sales through Etsy and similar online craft retailers do not satisfy this requirement.
Applicants must explain their relationship to the Adirondacks and how the residency would benefit their artistic practice. Digital-first and performance artists must additionally explain how visitors will experience and understand their creative process while the artist works. Additional Details
Artists must work in public areas of the museum grounds at least three days per week, approximately 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., for a minimum of six hours per day. They must also spend Fridays and Saturdays, approximately 10:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., in the Art Lab, developing their work and facilitating short, hands-on activities for visitors. Activities should be accessible, relatively brief, and allow participants to take home a finished piece.
Each artist must deliver a 15–20-minute presentation to museum staff near the end of the residency. Selection is conducted by a panel of museum staff, regional artists, and arts leaders. The panel considers diversity of artistic media and the museum’s commitment to supporting under-collected and under-represented artists.
Applicants should note that the residence building has stairs, bathroom facilities are shared, and pets are not permitted on campus.
