Short Description

The Connect and Create programme is an initiative led by the Goethe-Institut and Expertise France, in partnership with the Institut français and with the support of the European Union. It aims to foster collaboration, exchange, and the circulation of artistic works within Africa and between sub-Saharan Africa and the European Union. As the sub-Saharan African component of the Africa–Europe Partnerships for culture, it focuses on youth, emerging artistic scenes, and cultural diversity, with the ambition to build sustainable, inclusive, and equitable cooperation.

The Connect and Create # Circulation of Performing Arts and Music call aims to support the dissemination and circulation of African artistic creations in Africa and Europe, through financial assistance for organising tours or programming within major international events.

Eligibility

The following may apply: associations, foundations, cultural institutions, private companies ect with proven experience in the field of performing arts, and meeting the following conditions.
• Being based in one of the 48 Sub Saharan African countries or one of the 27 EU Member States;
• Being able to provide a legal registration document issued by the competent authorities;
• Being legally established for at least 2 years;
• Being in possession of a bank account capable of receiving international transfers.

The call for proposals is adressed to the following profiles:
• Artistic teams: performing arts companies, music ensembles, collectives based in Africa
• Dissemination structures: production houses/offices, artist developers, support offices, labels, theatres or cultural venues in Africa or Europe
• Events: festivals, professional meetings, markets, fairs in Africa or Europe

Eligible projects

Support for tours:
In Africa: tours of African companies, groups or artists with at least 5 pre-booked dates in at least 3 different countries.
In Europe: tours of African companies, groups or artists with at least 3 pre-booked dates in one or more European countries.
Support for programming in major international events:
In Africa and Europe, festivals or cultural events programming at least 3 artistic teams from at least 3 different African countries.

Eligible Disciplines

All music and performing arts disciplines, including:

  • Theatre
  • Dance
  • Performance
  • Puppetry
  • Circus
  • Street arts, etc.

Types of eligible projects:

  • Tours

In Africa: at least 5 pre-booked dates in a minimum of 3 different countries.

In Europe: at least 3 pre-booked dates in one or more European countries.

  • Programming within major events

In Africa or Europe: festivals/events hosting at least 3 artistic teams from 3 different African countries.

Eligible costs:

  • Travel (transport, visas, insurance)
  • Accommodation (lodging, per diem, local transport)
  • Shipping of scenographic and technical elements required for the performances

  • A project presentation file
  • A provisional budget
  • An implementation timeline
  • A logical framework
  • A form describing the applicant’s financial and organisational capacity
  • A declaration on honour regarding exclusion criteria and absence of conflict of interest

Program Benefits & Awards

This mechanism, with an overall budget envelope of €350,000, contributes to :
• Supporting the structuring of the performing arts sector on the African continent by creating new opportunities for dissemination and professional networking
• Enhancing the visibility of African artistic creations in Africa and Europe
• Facilitating their access to new audiences
Funding ranging from a minimum of €30,000 to a maximum of €70,000 will be awarded to selected projects, within the framework of the global budget of the operation.
