Short Description
Alchemy Spring Island Artist Residency is an artist-led initiative connecting art, food, farm, and community in the Toronto Islands and Prince Edward County. We invite artists to create new or ongoing work inspired by local landscapes and people, foster collaboration through shared meals and public engagement, and document the stories that emerge. Alchemy bridges rural and urban settings, cultivates collaboration, encourages place-based inquiry, and fosters community engagement.
ALCHEMY is an artist-led international residency carefully designed to connect artists, place, and community through studio work, lively salon style suppers, and site-specific exploration.
This Residency is designed for artists to focus on their practice and learn from others in a respectful and supportive studio environment. Through community engagement and a commitment to collaborative process, we collect, tell, and document multiple stories in a unique community setting. Founded in 2015 on the Toronto Islands, Alchemy’s pillars are food, art, garden and table — all inspired by the original gardens and community at the Centre. Shared meals, artist talks, studio visits, and dialogue with community members and guest artists all contribute to an inspiring time in a magical setting. This Residency is designed for artists to focus on their practice and learn from others in a respectful and supportive studio environment.
Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts is a peaceful artist retreat nestled against the magnificent backdrop of the Toronto Islands – the largest car-free community in North America and 15 minutes by ferry to Toronto’s downtown core.

Entry Fee
- Application Fee: $25 (non-refundable), payable by EFT or PayPal to info@makealchemy.com
- Cost: $1100 CAD + applicable accommodation taxes (includes studio space, thematic programming, guest artist talks, and four shared suppers)
