Description
The Ampersand Foundation is a UK-based grant-awarding charity supporting visual arts projects such as exhibitions, artist commissions, public collection initiatives, residencies, and educational programmes. The 2025 Annual Grants support new UK-based visual arts projects scheduled between 1 January 2026 – 30 June 2027, with all public-facing activities requiring at least one free public day per week.
Information & Application Details
Applications are accepted annually in two phases:
- Phase 1 (Expression of Interest): 9 June – 4 July 2025, 6pm BST.
- Phase 2 (Full Application): by invitation only, from 18 August – 26 September 2025, 6pm BST. Potential recipients will be notified with final decisions in mid-November 2025.
Eligibility
Open only to UK-registered charities, CIOs, CICs, or exempt charities. Individuals cannot apply unless endorsed by an eligible organisation. Projects must be UK-based and commence no earlier than 1 January 2026.
Theme
Supports a wide range of visual arts endeavours: exhibitions, commissions, collection care, residencies, and educational projects. Projects must be free to the public at least one full day each week.
How to Apply
Complete an online Expression of Interest form during Phase 1, including organisation info, project title, summary (max 200 words), key dates, and requested funding. Selected applicants will submit a full proposal and budget in Phase 2.
Submission Requirements
Phase 1 requires a short summary and funding amount. Phase 2 includes a more detailed project description (up to 2 pages), budget breakdown, dates, organisation details, and explanation of public benefit. Organisations must comply with safeguarding standards.
Selection Process
All EOIs reviewed by trustees; outcomes announced around 15 August 2025. Selected candidates invited to full applications, with final decisions made mid-November 2025.
Program Benefits/Awards
Grants typically average around £20,000, though amounts vary. Funds cannot cover capital costs or salaries. Multi-year grants may be offered for impactful institutional programming by invitation.
