Founded in 2021, the Art Explora Foundation in partnership with the Cité internationale des arts hosts an international artist residency programme at its historic Montmartre site in Paris, France. Having hosted over 145 residents from 58 countries, the foundation creates meaningful connections between arts, research, and global audiences while fostering dialogue around contemporary social, political, ecological, and technological challenges.

Art Explora – Cité internationale des arts Residency Programme 2027: Call for Applications
Fondation Art Explora and Cité internationale des arts have launched the 7th open call for their Paris-based residency programme for the 2027 session. Located in the heart of Montmartre, the program supports SOLO artists and COLLECTIVES (artists alongside researchers, curators, or writers) developing projects at the intersection of art, science, technology, and ecology. The residency offers a fully furnished 50m² live-work studio, monthly living stipends, dedicated production grants, round-trip travel coverage, tailored curatorial guidance, and studio visits with leading global art figures.
Residency Formats
The program offers two distinct residency tracks:
- SOLO Programme: Tailored for individual artists and writers across visual arts, performance, digital practices, literary arts, or experimental disciplines.
- COLLECTIVE Programme: Designed for artist collectives, or collaborative pairings of artists with researchers, curators, or writers. (One collective member is housed on-site, sharing the 50m² workspace and allocated grants).

Eligibility
- Professional Experience: Applicants of all nationalities and ages are eligible, provided they demonstrate at least 5 years of professional practice and have presented/exhibited their work on an international scale.
- Project Relevance: Proposals must explore contemporary social, political, environmental, or technological issues, and clearly articulate why being based in France is essential to the project's development.
Program Benefits & Support
- Montmartre Live-Work Studio: Fully equipped ~50m² studio apartment in Montmartre, Paris.
- Financial Stipends:
- SOLO Track: €1,000 EUR/month living grant + up to €3,000 EUR production grant + round-trip travel.
- COLLECTIVE Track: €2,000 EUR/month shared living grant + €3,000 EUR shared production grant + round-trip travel per member (up to €2,000 total).
- Curatorial & Production Assistance: Bespoke technical feasibility advice, access to local production workshops, Paris-based suppliers, and introductions to French digital creation networks.
- Mentorship & Studio Visits: Weekly studio visits with international curators, gallerists, and museum directors. Mentors include Marcella Lista (Centre Pompidou), Marc Spiegler (Art Basel), and Sandra Terdjman (KADIST).
- Public Showcase: Mandatory participation in the twice-yearly open studio festival "Ateliers Ouverts: les Rencontres de Montmartre" (held in February and June).
