Bioceno Lab Artist Residency — New York City: Call for Applications

Artesana Foundation has launched applications for Bioceno Lab, a 3-week artistic laboratory and residency offered in Online, In-Person (New York), and Hybrid formats. Focused on the convergence of Bio-materials, Art, Design, Technology, EcoTech, Living Systems, Sustainable Practices, Circularity, and Speculative Futures, the lab provides a dedicated space for creative research, material experimentation, and prototype development. Applicants are not required to arrive with finished projects and are encouraged to use the residency to explore open research questions, experiment with sustainable materials, or investigate new ecological technologies.

Program Formats & Pricing Tiers

  • Online Program Track: $450 USD program fee (Includes 3-week intensive online lab, EcoTech mentorship, group sessions, peer exchange, and digital presentation).
  • New York / In-Person Track: $850 USD program fee (Includes 3-week intensive NYC program, EcoTech mentorship, art studio access, curated museum visits, access to Materials for the Arts, and final open studio presentation).

(Note: Program fees do not include accommodation, airfare/travel, meals, local NYC transportation, visa expenses, personal materials, or insurance).

Categories

The residency accepts Bio-Design, Eco-Material Research, Sustainable Design, Sculpture, Installation, Digital Tools, EcoTech, Interactive Media, Speculative Design, and Interdisciplinary Ecological Practices.

Eligibility

  • Demographic Scope: Open unconditionally to emerging and established artists, designers, researchers, and creators residing in New York, across the United States, and internationally.
  • Career Stage: Both emerging and established practitioners are welcome; an extensive international career record is not required.
  • Project Status: Accepts developing concepts, material research proposals, prototypes, or open research questions.

Program Benefits & Included Services

  • Mentorship & Research Support: Direct guidance from EcoTech mentors, bio-design practitioners, and curatorial staff.
  • NYC Cultural & Material Resources: Selected New York museum visits, art studio access, and resource access to Materials for the Arts (MFTA) supplies when available.
  • Public Showcase: Final open studio / public presentation showcase (subject to edition confirmation).
