The Foundation supports emerging and mid-career artists through residency programs, creative research opportunities, and cultural exchange platforms across the United States and internationally.

Resilient Roots Artist Residency — New York City: Call for Applications

Artesana Foundation has opened applications for the Resilient Roots Artist Residency, an intensive 2-week program offered in both Online and New York / Hybrid formats. Center-focused on themes of Memoria, Migration, Identity, Belonging, Ecology, Territory, the Body, Cultural Memory, Resilience, and Transformation, the residency offers a structured space for creative research, narrative development, and artistic experimentation. Artists are not required to arrive with finished projects and may use the residency to initiate new bodies of work or deepen ongoing research.

Program Formats & Pricing Tiers

  • Online Program Track: $350 USD program fee (Includes 2-week intensive online mentoring, peer exchange, creative exercises, and digital publication).
  • New York / In-Person Track: $650 USD program fee (Includes 2-week intensive NYC program, mentoring, curated museum visits, networking events, access to Materials for the Arts, studio access, and open studio presentation).

(Note: Program fees do not include accommodation, airfare/travel, meals, local NYC transportation, visa expenses, or personal materials).

The residency accepts Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video Art, Performance Art, Installation, Textile Art, Writing & Storytelling, Sound, Digital Media, and Interdisciplinary Practices.

Eligibility

  • Demographic Scope: Open unconditionally to emerging and established artists residing in New York, across the United States, and internationally.
  • Career Stage: Extensive international exhibition records are not required; emerging practitioners are warmly welcomed.
  • Project Status: Accepts developing concepts, new research lines, or works-in-progress.

Program Benefits & Included Services

  • Curatorial Guidance & Mentoring: Individual artistic mentorship and facilitated group/peer conversations.
  • Resource Access: Selected New York cultural resources and access to Materials for the Arts (MFTA) supplies when applicable and available.
  • Public Presentation & Documentation: Final open studio / presentation showcase (when confirmed) and inclusion in a digital publication/documentation archive.
