Short Description
The University of Toronto’s Centre for Culture and Technology is offering an Artist in Residence opportunity for artists to develop and mount a solo exhibition. The residency includes financial support, curatorial and research assistance, access to university resources, and professional documentation. The artist will also participate in academic engagements such as seminars, studio visits, and a published book project.
Residency Duration: Until April 2026 (culminates in a published book)
Eligibility
Must be eligible to work in Canada (Citizen or Permanent Resident)
Cannot be a current student at the University of Toronto
Cannot hold a full-time staff or academic position at U of T (sessional instructors may apply)
Open to artists not currently living in Toronto, but no relocation support provided
Program Benefits or Awards
$10,000 CAD stipend
$10,000 CAD production and installation budget
Logistical support for funding applications (e.g., Ontario Arts Council)
Dedicated curatorial support from the Centre’s curator
Studio and research assistance from Centre staff
Facilitated studio visits from University of Toronto faculty
Access to University of Toronto libraries
Invitation to participate in the summer institute “Computer Class” (June–July 2025)
Professional photo and video documentation of the exhibition
Publication of a book engaging with the exhibition

Collaborate with the Centre’s director to apply for funding in April 2025

Host the first Monday Night Seminar in September 2025
Participate in the annual Fellows’ Retreat
Be available for class visits from graduate and undergraduate students
Deliver an extended Artist Statement as a lecture at the Fellows’ Day conference in April 2026
Revise the statement for publication in a book documenting the exhibition
