Short Description
Every two years, the BFF offers a unique scholarship for 12 participants with the support of BFF mentors, workshops lasting several days and a crowning award ceremony in Zingst followed by an exhibition tour. This year’s theme is “Play”.
The photo competition is aimed at all aspiring professional photographers and young professionals from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Applicants must not be younger than 18 and not older than 30 years old.
Eligibility
The BFF Sponsorship Award for Staged Photography is entering the next round – this year’s theme is “Playing”. We are looking for the twelve best young photographers who inspire with creative perspectives and provide inspiring food for thought on this versatile topic.
Metaphorically, concretely or abstractly – playing is everywhere. Children meet to play, families and groups of friends spend game evenings together. Sporting competitions captivate millions, while in art and culture the playing of roles is essential – be it in theatre, film or music. Our everyday lives are also full of games: the weather goes crazy, life can be a game of chance or tragedy, and it is not uncommon for people to play with hidden cards.
Submission Requirements
You summarize your project idea on the topic of “playing” in a concept paper. Also, include a mood board or other visual sketches, as well as 10-15 work samples to illustrate your thought process. Provide the moods with references and make it clear which work is yours. Summarize all application parts in one PDF and attach your other required application documents to this PDF.

The jury will select three works from the participants for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The three winners will be awarded the prizes donated by Epson, Leica and SIGMA:
1st prize: Epson printer, Leica SL2-S with an SL35mm ASPH lens, 500 € WhiteWall voucher
2nd prize: Epson printer SIGMA 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN, 300 € WhiteWall voucher
3rd prize: Epson printer, 100 € WhiteWall voucher
All participants will receive the BFF Handbook Photo Law – THE reference work for everything to do with photo law, self-employment, calculation including downloads of contracts, terms and conditions and releases.
As a participant in the BFF Sponsorship Award, we will provide you with a mentor during the implementation phase. The experienced professionals will share their valuable know-how with you and support you in conceptual, design and technical questions.
This mentoring program is unique – a unique chance to learn from renowned photographers and photography professionals, gain new perspectives and take your project to the next level.
We will reveal who will be there as a mentor this year when the participants publish it.
