Organizer Information:
BoundingBox is a web-based, non-profit project space by Clarisse Verbeek and Arthur Saint-Remy that grew out of a curiosity about the digital constraints of placing white walls in the virtual.
Title & Description: Thinking in Circuits
For the 7th edition of The Wrong Biennale, BoundingBox is looking for artists interested in participating in a group exhibition that explores cybernetics as a framework for understanding the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and artistic practice. Coined by Norbert Wiener in the late 1940s, cybernetics focuses on feedback loops, self-regulating systems, and the continuous exchange between input and output—concepts that remain relevant in light of current technological developments and contemporary creative practices and tools. Originally applied in engineering contexts, cybernetics soon evolved into a transdisciplinary research language. It fragmented and extended far beyond computer science, influencing fields such as anthropology, media theory, design and philosophy. In the 1990s, cyberfeminist voices like Sadie Plant and Donna Haraway recognized its potential as a tool to rethink agency, control, and identity. (For those interested, please find more research material and a reading list on our website)
We propose to understand artistic production as a cybernetic loop rather than a linear process. How is input entangled with output? Rather than framing AI as a neutral tool, we want to explore it as an active participant within a distributed creative system. How do systems shape artists; who shape them in return? And how might cybernetics help us rethink artistic practice in today’s algorithmic context? We welcome submissions from artists whose work engages with any form of input-output-feedback relation. We are interested in works where AI played a role at any stage of the creative process—though this is not a strict requirement :).

Additional Details:
This exhibition will take place on the BoundingBox platform, a pavilion in the 7th edition of The Wrong Biennale.
Works will be shown in a custom-built 3D environment. Submissions must be compatible with this format or adaptable to it. Production and presentation will happen in dialogue with BoundingBox.
Please note that file size matters: Due to the limitations of web-based exhibition space and the inclusion of multiple artists, we may need to work with file weight restrictions. These will be discussed with selected artists on a case-by-case basis.
