Artist Commons is an international online artist development platform and community network. Designed to bridge the gap between studio practice and professional career sustainability, Artist Commons pairs emerging and mid-career visual artists with working mentors, curators, and peers for structured critique, art history theory, and practical art business education.

CALL FOR APPLICANTS: Artist Commons 2026 Cohorts — Year-Long Online Incubator
Artist Commons has officially opened applications for its 2026 Cohorts, running from January through December 2026. Structured into four 10-week quarters across the year, the program places visual artists into small, balanced cohorts (approx. 8–10 members) paired with an assigned mentor. Members meet weekly for nearly two hours of critique and discussion, supplemented by monthly lectures, writing clinics, and craft workshops focusing on the business of art, modern art theory, grant/residency applications, gallery contracts, and strategic outreach.
Program Structure & Benefits
Across the full year (Jan–Dec 2026), participating cohort members receive:
- Cohort Feedback & Mentorship: Weekly 2-hour feedback/critique sessions with an 8–10 artist cohort, plus 4 individual 1-on-1 crits with a mentor.
- Portfolio & Writing Clinics: Structured portfolio reviews and writing sessions for artist statements, bios, proposals, and grant/open call applications.
- Professional & History Lectures: Weekly talks on the business of art (pricing, editioning, gallery contracts, outreach), contemporary art history, and creativity/craft.
- Community Resources: Access to a private smartphone app and discussion space, live demos with working artists, curated grant/residency lists, and quarterly in-person meetups in select cities.
Eligibility
- Demographic Scope: Open unconditionally to early- and mid-career visual artists worldwide across all visual disciplines.
- Academic Background: Open to all creators regardless of whether they hold a formal BFA/MFA art degree.
- Requirements: Applicants must be committed to participating in weekly virtual sessions across the four 10-week quarters.
Tuition, Founding Rates & Scholarships
- Application Fee:100% Free to apply ($0 submission fee).
- Tuition: Standard price is $2,400 USD. The special Founding Cohort Member price for 2026 is $1,850 USD.
- Payment Schedule: Founding Members pay an initial $650 USD deposit to secure their seat, followed by 10 monthly installments of $120 USD.
- Scholarships:Partial and full scholarships are available to maintain program accessibility. Applicants can apply directly through the scholarship section on the last page of the application form.
