Short Description

The CultureHub Residency Program supports artists experimenting with emerging technologies in search of new artistic forms. We are seeking artists developing new projects that are both critically and imaginatively informed by technology.

This year, we are accepting proposals in two tracks: ON LOOP (Interactive Installation track) and IRL/URL (Hybrid Performance track). The key difference between the tracks is how projects engage their audience. Projects can utilize technologies such as telepresence, virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, robotics, creative coding, live web, game design, etc. and can be at various stages of development.

1. ON LOOP
Interactive Installation track
This track supports artists developing technologically-informed projects that can be experienced on a loop. Projects should explore ways to design meaningful forms of interaction with audiences that could occur in a gallery or in another installation setting. Within the CultureHub studio, projects may use software and hardware to sequence audio, video, lighting, and other technological elements to create cohesive narrative or experiential works.

2. IRL/URL
Hybrid Performance track
This track supports artists developing time-based works that engage an audience simultaneously in-person and online. Projects may leverage hardware and software to create performative systems that engage distributed audiences. Artists will have access to LiveLab and the CultureHub Broadcaster, two open-source platforms for telepresence and interactive livestreaming, which can be used along with any other tools relevant to the project’s development.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to U.S. based artists who are not currently enrolled in a degree-earning program. CultureHub envisions a world where technology amplifies our humanity rather than diminishes it. We support artists who critically examine technology from a wide array of mediums and creative perspectives. We encourage applicants to learn about our current and past Resident Artists and view past projects prior to submitting an application.

The residency does not support travel and accommodation costs.
