Curator and Exhibition Manager – Art League Houston (2026)
Art League Houston is seeking a Curator and Exhibition Manager to lead and manage its exhibitions department. This full-time role focuses on delivering a dynamic program of Curatorial projects, exhibition planning, and production management across multiple simultaneous initiatives.
The position is central to the institution’s Exhibition infrastructure, overseeing the full lifecycle of exhibitions—from concept development and logistics to installation, public programming, and deinstallation. The role also includes oversight of partnerships, artist relations, and institutional collaborations.
The Curator and Exhibition Manager works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that all exhibitions align with ALH’s mission of community engagement through Contemporary Art and public-facing programming.
The Role Overview
- Position Type: Full-time (4-day work week)
- Reports To: Executive Director
- Salary: $60,000 annual salary
- Additional Benefits: $600 monthly health stipend + 401(k) matching up to 4%
- Working Model: Onsite, with occasional evenings and weekends
- Core Function: Exhibition production, curatorial coordination, and project management
Position & Tasks
Exhibition & Curatorial Management
- Manage full exhibition production, including installation and artist coordination
- Curate and organize annual and biannual award exhibitions in the Visual Arts
- Develop production schedules and oversee budgeting processes
- Coordinate shipping, loan agreements, and artwork handling
- Maintain artist relationships and institutional partnerships
- Organize exhibition-related public programming, including talks and receptions
Installation & Technical Management
- Lead installation and deinstallation of exhibitions
- Supervise installation teams and art handlers
- Oversee gallery maintenance, lighting, and exhibition presentation
- Manage logistics for incoming and outgoing artworks
- Conduct condition reporting and artwork handling procedures
Fundraising & Institutional Support
- Support grant writing and reporting processes
- Assist the Executive Director with donor and board engagement
- Contribute to fundraising initiatives for exhibitions and programs
Design, Communication & Programming
- Oversee production of exhibition materials (posters, catalogues, signage)
- Collaborate on marketing and communications strategies
- Coordinate catalog production for major award exhibitions
- Develop public engagement initiatives, including workshops and talks
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage open calls for exhibitions and selection processes
- Oversee art fairs, retail inventory, and institutional publications
- Participate in panels, juries, and public representation of ALH
- Support fundraising events and advisory board coordination

Eligibility
This opportunity is open to professionals with experience in Curatorial and exhibition production roles within cultural institutions.
Applicants should have:
- Minimum 4 years experience in exhibition planning or Art Management
- BA/BFA in art, art history, or related field (MA preferred)
- Strong experience in Exhibition production and logistics
- Proven organizational and communication skills
- Familiarity with installation processes and artwork handling
- Ability to work onsite with physical demands (lifting, ladders, etc.)
Preferred:
- Experience in community-based Contemporary Art programming
- Strong writing and fundraising experience
- Experience in public engagement and institutional collaboration
