Short Description
Echo Soho Art Fair is a new art fair founded by and for female-led galleries. Inspired by the myth of Echo, the nymph whose voice lingered long after she was heard, and the historic hunting call that gave Soho its name, Echo Soho is an art fair that celebrates the lasting impact of women’s voices in the art world.
Founded by India Rose James, a dedicated supporter of emerging artists and the founding director of contemporary commercial gallery Soho Revue, the fair echoes the galleries’ own call to arms and seeks to uplift female-led galleries and under-represented artists.
Eligibility
AWITA (Association of Women in the Arts) invites members to propose artists and works for inclusion in a curated AWITA booth at the inaugural Echo Soho Art Fair. AWITA is an inclusive network that actively celebrates and embraces the talents, perspectives, and lived experiences of women and non-binary professionals across the art world, including those from LGBTQIA+ communities. Submissions are not limited to women artists or women-led narratives. AWITA Co-founder Sigrid Kirk comments that ‘showing women separately and divorcing them from the marketplace is not the best way of shifting the needle,
however, providing a platform to showcase female professionals can make a difference. I recall a quote by Marian Goodman in W Magazine: “For all their contributions, clout, and staying power… female gallerists have historically been under-recognized and overshadowed,” which still bears true today.’
