Short Description
Together with 20 member cities and a regional association as well as numerous municipal, supra-regional and international cultural partners, the NRWKS initiates, promotes and organises a wide range of programmes, projects and events – often interdisciplinary and experimental. Affiliated to the city of Wuppertal for 49 years as a public-law agreement, the NRWKS became a self-governing special-purpose association in 2024, the 50th year of its existence.
Experimental research is supported in order to deepen and expand artistic practice. The fundamentally interdisciplinary research focus is on the creation of new aesthetic and social spaces for exploration and discovery.
For Dance Research #54 ‘Dancing The Echoes From Within The Kitchen’, dancer Ayaka Nakamain, who comes from Kobe, Japan, will explore the local street food culture and the bodies of the people working there in Düsseldorf, Cologne and the Ruhr region.
The scholarship programme enables dance artists to undertake residencies lasting several weeks for theme-based, production-independent research.
By supporting location-specific research, the programme aims to stimulate international artistic practice and mobility that goes beyond the production and touring of works. It addresses professionals in the field of dance who, by expanding their artistic practices, can also enrich a specific cultural ecosystem.
The aim is to the dialogue on artistic values and working methods, fostering new forms of collaboration.
