Short Description
The Edinburgh Short Film Festival (ESFF) 2025 is offering multiple awards and cash prizes for filmmakers whose films are selected for exhibition. These awards recognize outstanding filmmaking, animation, Scottish short films, and audience favorites. Winners will receive cash prizes, festival invitations, industry opportunities, and professional development resources.
The call is open for any form of short film, genre, budgets and techniques, from any part of the world.
The maximum duration for submitted films is 25 minutes including credits.
Eligibility
The ESFF is also holding International Short Film Showcases across the globe. So, if you want to win one of the prestigious ESFF trophies and have your work featured at film festivals internationally, submit your film to the ESFF today.
Devoted to screening short film from Edinburgh, Scotland and around the world, The ESFF evolved from the Leith Short Film Festival in 2011 and has shown everything – from the first film made in Somalia in 20 years, to Oscar nominated shorts from Australia, the USA and Ireland, as well as short films smuggled out of China and Iran – and hosted visiting film-makers from China, Russia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland and all over the UK.
How to Apply
Films must be selected for screening at ESFF 2024 or 2025.
No separate submission process—films already selected are automatically considered.
Online Audience Award participants must opt in for streaming and voting.
Selection Process
Best Film, Best Animated Film, and Best Scottish Short Film will be judged by festival juries and industry experts.
Online Audience Award winner will be decided based on public voting.
Program Benefits or Awards
£250 Cash Prize, film festival invitations, invitation to attend the manipulate visual theatre and animation festival, inclusion on curated programmes for our film festival partnerships and the Best Animation trophy.
Winners will receive a 50% discount on an online course in Film Festival Promotion, Funding & Distribution provided MiraBan.
Judges: The winner will be selected by a panel of industry judges headed by K-J Mathieson, Animator, producer and art director
