The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) invites artists to submit original artwork for the “Family Portraits” exhibition, which explores the complex and personal concept of family. The theme is open to interpretation, encouraging diverse representations of familial bonds, from biological ties to chosen families and communities.

Information and Application Details

  • Exhibition Location: Museum of Northern California Art, Chico.
  • Key Dates:
    • Submission Deadline: February 2, 2025, by 5 PM.
    • Notification of Jury Results: By February 23, 2025.
    • Artwork Delivery: March 6-9 and March 13-16 (11 AM – 5 PM).
    • Exhibition Dates: March 20 – May 11, 2025.
    • Opening Receptions: March 21 (members-only) and March 28 (community event).
    • Artwork Pickup: May 11, 2025, at 5 PM or May 15-25 during museum hours.

Eligibility

  • Open to artists residing in Northern California (San Jose and all points north, east, and west to the state border).
  • Refunds will not be issued to ineligible applicants.
  • All accepted artworks must remain on display for the full duration of the exhibition.

How to Apply

  • Submit entries via the provided application process.
  • Entry fees: $15 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry (up to 8 entries). Fees are non-refundable.

Submission Requirements

  • Original artwork in any medium (excluding AI-generated works).
  • Art must be ready to hang or display (framing wire required; no sawtooth hangers).
  • 3D works must fit on a pedestal or have an artist-provided display.
  • Artist’s name, phone, and title of the work must be labeled on the back.

Selection Process

  • A jury of professional artists and collectors will evaluate submissions.
  • Jury decisions are final, and fees are non-refundable for unselected works.
