Feral is a Glasgow-based arts producing house founded in 2015 by Jill Smith and Kathryn Boyle. The organisation works extensively with independent artists across movement-based practices, with a particular focus on Visual Theatre, Dance, and Outdoor Arts. Feral’s mission is to support artists at various stages of their professional journey by offering producing expertise, touring support, festival coordination, and creative residencies. Over the years, Feral has established a strong portfolio of collaborations, facilitating both local and international touring opportunities and helping artists navigate artistic development, project planning, and professional sustainability. Their work is supported by Creative Scotland, and they are recognised for cultivating long-term relationships with artists and nurturing mid-career talent.

Title & Description

Producing Surgeries for Mid-Career Artists (March–June 2026)
This open call invites mid-career artists to participate in a paid Producing Surgeries programme hosted by Feral. The programme is designed for artists who have at least five years of professional experience in Visual Theatre, Dance, or Outdoor Arts and who do not currently work with a dedicated producer. The goal is to provide tailored, strategic producing support to help artists initiate new projects, shift direction in their practice, or navigate key developmental steps. Each selected artist will engage in four intensive producing sessions offering tailored guidance in fundraising, budgeting, project planning, strategic development, touring advice, and creative troubleshooting. The programme is collaborative, reflective, and designed to provide impactful support for artists seeking a step forward in their careers.

Eligibility

  • Mid-career artists with 5+ years of professional experience.
  • Artists who have never had a formal producing relationship or dedicated producer.
  • Practitioners working specifically in Visual Theatre, Dance, or Outdoor Arts.
  • Applicants must live and work in Scotland.
  • Open to artists from all backgrounds, identities, and gender orientations.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Paid participation: £44.90 per hour per session.
  • Total artist payment: £359.20 for four sessions.
  • Four tailored 2-hour producing surgeries were delivered between March and June 2026.
  • Sessions held primarily via Zoom, with the possibility of in-person meetings in Scotland’s Central Belt.
  • Personalised support in producing strategy, fundraising, planning, touring, partnership building, and conceptual development.
