God’s House Tower (GHT) is a cultural venue in Southampton operated by ‘a space’ arts, a visual arts charity established in 2002. The organization supports artists and contributes to Southampton’s cultural offer through exhibitions, creative programmes, and opportunities for artists to engage with audiences. GHT’s artist shop provides a platform for local and regional artists and makers to sell their work while becoming part of its wider creative community.

GHT Artist Shop 2027 Open Call for Artists and Makers
God’s House Tower is seeking up to 10 artists and makers to join its 2027 artist shop cohort for a fixed 12-month period from January to December 2027. The opportunity is designed to bring together artists working across a broad range of mediums and styles whose work can complement GHT’s programme and appeal to its visitors.
Selected artists will have their work promoted and sold through the GHT shop. The programme also encourages artists to engage with the wider creative community through potential workshops, talks, demonstrations, activity sheets, markets, or other contributions.
For 2027, GHT is also introducing Framework, an experimental shop and exhibition display on the walls of the café extension. Printmakers and painters may indicate in their application if they would like to be considered for this opportunity.

Eligibility
The call is primarily aimed at local artists and makers, with preference given to artists based in Hampshire, in line with GHT’s mission. However, artists from further afield may also apply.
Artists working across different mediums are welcome. The organizer specifically mentions printmakers, painters, jewellery makers, ceramicists, illustrators, and poets, but states that it is interested in a broad mix of mediums.
Applicants should be able to provide information about their previous selling experience, their proposed shop products, pricing, stock availability, and their potential contribution to GHT’s programme.

GHT reports that artists in the current cohort have earned an average of approximately £40 per month after commission. This is an indicative figure rather than a guaranteed payment.

Additional Details
Artists are expected to keep their stock clearly priced and, where necessary, appropriately wrapped or packaged for safe storage and transportation. GHT will monitor sales and maintain an ongoing dialogue with participating artists about the shop offer.
Each artist’s stock will be regularly rotated so that individual works receive opportunities for visibility. Artists who need to leave the programme before the end of the 12 months can be supported in withdrawing their work.
For Framework, painters and printmakers should explicitly indicate in their application whether they wish to be considered.
