What is Globus Opstart+?

Globus Opstart+ supports the establishment and research phases of artistic and cultural projects that connects actors from the Nordic and other places and regions in the world.

The programme aims to make space for artistic development, experimentation and exploratory approaches that require engagement from different parts of the world. With Globus Opstart+ we focus on creating networks and collaborations characterised by deep relations. We encourage you therefore to explore and establish clear structures and mutual project organisation with the potential for long-term development.

The programme can be applied by new projects and collaborations, as well as previously supported initiatives as part of a new development phase.

The funding can be granted to projects operating with a clear global dimension and development potential.

The programme focuses in particular on projects that operate with an exploratory approach to building collaborations and seeking new knowledge to develop and strengthen their practice in a global framework. We therefore encourage you to think new in terms of ideas, themes and the establishment of relations characterised by deep relations and duration.

You can apply as an individual, group, institution, association, company, public or private organisation.

The project must be clearly linked to artistic and/or cultural contexts or environments. The Nordic Culture Fund does not support projects that focus primarily on, for example, sporting events, business development, technological development and innovation, the social area, journalism or social science.

Projects that are assessed to be able to be developed within the Fund’s Project Funding and Opstart programmes cannot, in principle, obtain support from Globus Opstart+.

Assessment criteria

Applications are assessed under three main criteria, taking into account the project’s own context:

Nordic/Global anchoring

Your project must have a Nordic anchoring but should not be realisable within the Nordic region alone. Support from the Fund is dependent on binding participation and contributions from artists and/or cultural practioners working within and outside the Nordic region.

Global dimension and scope of collaboration

We look at how projects demonstrate a clear global dimension and development potential and support artistic development. Emphasis is placed on projects’ global ambitions being reflected in the choice of collaborating partners, the project’s structure and how the work is anchored in specific local/regional contexts and environments.

We also consider how the project’s cooperation is reflected in the budget.

Development potential and long-term focus

We look at how the project works with research and has an exploratory approach to building collaborations, seeking out new knowledge and creating relevance and development for the practices of the actors involved within a global framework.

We look at how the project thinks new in terms of theme and concept, as well as the establishment of networks and collaborations in a long-term perspective.

Conditions

Project period

• You can only apply for funding for activities that take place after you have received a decision from the Nordic Culture Fund. You can expect a decision on your Globus Opstart+ application by the beginning of June.
• The project should be completed within one year of the project’s start date. Please contact the secretariat if a granted project cannot be finalized within the planned time frame.

Budget

• You can apply for max. DKK 75,000. Fees may comprise 80% (though no more than DKK 45,000) of the applied Globus Opstart grant.
• There is no requirement for co-financing, but there must be a clear purpose for the project’s use of support. The budget in the application must be detailed and, for example, specify travel, the travellers, visa and what materials are needed.
• The cooperation between the participating actors must be reflected in the project budget.

Applications

• The projects must be clearly linked to artistic and/or cultural environments. The Nordic Culture Fund does not fund projects that focus primarily on, for example, sporting events, business development, technological development and innovation, the social area, journalism or social science.
• If your Globus Opstart+-application is rejected, you may develop the project and re-apply one more time.
• The Fund only accepts electronic applications, which may be submitted via the Fund’s applications portal. Applications submitted by post or e-mail will not be considered.

Publicity

• The Fund’s grants are published on our website and in our annual report.
• According to the Nordic Culture Fund’s rules on public access to information, a list of applications is in the public domain, but the applications are not.
