Short Description:
Joshua Tree National Park attracts more than 3 million visitors each year from around the globe. They are drawn to the nearly 800,000-acre park for its magical combination
of twisted geology, monolithic rock formations, unobstructe vistas, bizarre flora, and abundant wildlife within its two distinct desert ecosystems—the Mojave and the Colorado. A veritable
wonderland of solitude, spectacle, and cultural inspiration, the park has influenced thousands of artists to make the pilgrimage for independent residencies, brief inspirational visits, or even longterm moves to the desert. This exhibition aims to celebrate the park and encourage its visitors to appreciate, protect and preserve its rare and remarkable namesake.
JURIED EXHIBITION: In recognition of a long-standing tradition between artists and our national parks, Joshua Tree National Park Council for the Arts created an annual art exposition in 2013, with a juried exhibition featuring art depicting or inspired by the natural aspects of Joshua Tree National Park or its cultural history. The exhibition is displayed at the historic 29 Palms Art Gallery at the Oasis of Mara, next to park headquarters.
Application Requirements:
Submit digital images (photos) of the actual
artwork(s) to be considered by the jury for the juried exhibition.
• An artist may submit up to 3 works for the $35 entry fee.
• Submissions should be high quality (300 dpi/ppi) jpeg, preferably
1 MB size per image (no larger than 2 MB per image).
• Label images with artist’s LAST NAME and ARTWORK TITLE on
saved files (e.g., Hilton-DesertSun.jpg … not: image001.jpg)
• Do not use watermarks or identification on the front of photos.
• For 3-D, you may include extra photos of all sides of the artwork.
Eligibility:
Open to living artists, age 18 and over. Artwork
must be original work created by the artist within the last five (5)
years and not previously exhibited in a JTNP Art Expo juried
exhibition. Art must be for sale and must adhere to the theme.
Program Benefits or Awards:
Up to $4,000 in cash awards.
Artists are eligible for 1st, 2nd, 3rd awards in each category, plus
Best of Show. Artists selected for the juried exhibition will have one
piece of their art featured in the exhibition at the gallery and online
and presented in a full-color exhibition catalog.
Entry Fee:
$35 (USD) entry fee for up to 3 submitted images
per artist (three different pieces of art).
